Ontario International Airport Passenger Count Rose 0.3% in First Eight Months

Ontario International Airport (ONT) reported passenger volumes of nearly 4.7 million during the first eight months of 2026, marking a 0.3% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. This growth was significantly boosted by a 31% surge in international travel, attributed to increased flights to Taiwan and Mexico.

For the month of August alone, the airport handled 606,000 travelers, a decrease of 6.2% from August 2025. Airlines reportedly reduced capacity due to rising fuel prices. Despite this monthly dip, the overall year-to-date figures remained positive due to the strong performance in international transit.

The airport has also garnered recognition for its passenger experience. It ranked highest among all California airports in the JD Power 2026 North America Airport Satisfaction Study. International travel has been a key driver for ONT's continued expansion and appeal.

Cargo volumes at Ontario International Airport also showed upward trends. In August, cargo tonnage increased by 3.3% compared to the previous year, and year-to-date freight volumes are up 6.5%. This reinforces the airport's position as a significant hub for air cargo operations.
