OPCSA orders eight more hybrid Konecranes RTGs

The Canary Islands Ports Authority (OPCSA) has placed an order for eight new hybrid Konecranes RTGs (Rubber Tyred Gantry) to enhance its operations at the port of Las Palmas. Konecranes has previously supplied hybrid cranes to OPCSA, and these new units are set to bolster the port operator's growth capabilities.

The new cranes are Konecranes RTGs equipped with the company's Smart Features technology. This technology enables automated material handling and reduces fuel consumption by up to 70 percent compared to traditional diesel-powered cranes. The hybrid technology combines a diesel engine with a battery-based energy regeneration system.

OPCSA has been investing in Konecranes' hybrid technology since 2018 to improve the efficiency and environmental performance of its port operations. This latest order extends the collaboration and supports OPCSA's ambitions to handle increasing cargo volumes.

Deliveries of the eight RTG cranes are scheduled for 2025. Konecranes stated that the deployment of these hybrid cranes will support OPCSA's growth strategy while significantly reducing the port's carbon emissions.
