Opella Achieves Global B Corp Certification in Consumer Healthcare

French consumer healthcare firm Opella has achieved global B Corp Certification, marking a first for the self-care industry. The certification, awarded by the non-profit B Lab, signifies Opella's compliance with stringent social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency standards.

The certification follows a four-year transformation initiative by Opella, focused on enhancing sustainability, innovation, and governance across its worldwide operations. The company reported strong performance metrics in crucial areas, including climate action, product sustainability, and community health.

Opella has reduced its Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 64% since 2019 and sources over 93% of its electricity from renewable sources. As of 2024, 97% of its paper-based packaging is derived from certified or recycled materials. Furthermore, through partnerships with local NGOs, Opella's community programs have benefited over one million people, and its health awareness campaigns reached more than 129 million individuals in 2024.

Opella President and CEO Julie Van Ongevalle stated that the global B Corp certification is a foundational step in the company's sustainability journey. She highlighted the contributions of its 11,000 employees and the company's commitment to demonstrating that business success and sustainability can align. Opella intends to continue advancing its standards and encourages other self-care companies to pursue greater responsibility.
