Opella invests $70 million in new Mexico production line
Opella has inaugurated a new production line for its Enterogermina product in Mexico following a $70 million investment. The expansion aims to strengthen the company's supply chain for the Americas.
French pharmaceutical company Opella has launched a new production line for its Enterogermina probiotic product at its facility in Ocoyoacac, Mexico, backed by a $70 million investment. The expansion is expected to add 200 million mini-bottles to the annual production capacity and will serve markets across the Americas.
The investment is part of Opella's strategy to bolster its global supply network and improve product availability amid strong growth in the probiotics market. The company notes that the global probiotics market is experiencing double-digit growth, driven by increasing consumer awareness of gut health's link to overall well-being.
The new Mexican facility will act as a complementary regional hub to Opella's existing manufacturing site in Italy. This dual-hub approach is intended to ensure consistent product supply despite market expansion. The Mexican plant also aligns with Opella's environmental commitments, utilizing 100% renewable electricity and aiming for a zero-waste-to-landfill model.
Deliveries from the new production line are anticipated to reach markets in the Americas between 2027 and 2028, pending regulatory approvals. Opella operates as a globally B Corp certified company.
