Opella secures $1.94M Australian federal funding for manufacturing electrification

The funding will support the installation of a new heat pump electrification system designed to replace natural gas in the facility’s dehumidification processes. This initiative is part of the company's broader strategy to eliminate fossil fuel reliance at the site.

The project is estimated to reduce annual carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 1,200 tonnes, while increasing electricity demand by only about 2 percent. The Brisbane site already sources 100 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, including on-site solar infrastructure.

Lee Coomber, General Manager of Opella ANZ, stated that the project serves as a model for reimagining energy-intensive industrial processes. The facility currently employs over 300 staff and manufactures more than 2.1 billion tablets and capsules annually, supporting local brands such as Nature's Own and Cenovis.
