Opella Study Links Cough Treatment to Improved Sleep and Social Engagement
A new real-world study by Opella indicates that Mucosolvan and Bisolvon treatments can lead to significant improvements in patient sleep quality and social participation within days.

PARIS, Oct. 15, 2026 – Opella, the maker of Mucosolvan and Bisolvon, has released findings from a new study suggesting that the success of cough treatments should be measured by their impact on overall patient well-being, in addition to traditional symptom relief.
The real-world study, conducted with adult consumers in Italy, evaluated the effects of the treatments on daily functioning and quality of life over a seven-day period. Key findings reported rapid symptom relief from the first dose, a significant improvement in social engagement within 72 hours, and enhanced sleep quality after just 48 hours.
Results indicated that patients experienced a substantial reduction in sleep difficulties, including issues with falling asleep and staying asleep, as well as reduced sleep-related tiredness. The percentage of patients reporting these sleep-related challenges decreased by 55% to 59%.
Company representatives stated that the findings highlight the need to broaden the assessment of cough treatments beyond mere physical symptoms. The study suggests that Mucosolvan and Bisolvon assist patients in resuming their normal lives more quickly.
