OpenAI aims for households with dedicated family product manager

Artificial intelligence firm OpenAI is broadening its focus for ChatGPT beyond individual users to target entire families. The company has posted a job opening for a product manager tasked with creating experiences for families, caregivers, and older adults across its product suite.

The San Francisco-based role requires experience in building products for parents and families, along with expertise in trust-sensitive consumer experiences. This suggests OpenAI aims to develop safer and more appropriate AI applications for family environments.

This strategic expansion coincides with a notable shift in ChatGPT's user demographics. Data from analytics firm Sensor Tower indicates that the share of global ChatGPT users aged 35 and older rose to 31% in the second quarter, up from 26% a year prior. Concurrently, the proportion of users aged 18 to 24 decreased to 29%.

Ben Bajarin, CEO of technology consultancy Creative Strategies, commented that a dedicated product role for families signifies OpenAI's evolving perspective. The company is moving from viewing its products as individual productivity tools to technologies designed for the household, aiming to make AI more accessible and beneficial for the entire family.
