OpenAI and Microsoft Services Experience User Outages
OpenAI's ChatGPT Work and Microsoft's Exchange Online experienced widespread disruptions on Monday. Both companies stated they were working to resolve the issues.
Both AI company OpenAI and technology giant Microsoft experienced significant service outages for key products on Monday. OpenAI reported that its ChatGPT Work service has been suffering from elevated errors and latency for approximately three hours, stating they are working on implementing a mitigation.
Concurrently, Microsoft faced reported issues with its Exchange Online service, part of its Office 365 suite. Microsoft indicated that users might experience degraded functionality across various Exchange Online features and were reviewing diagnostic data to pinpoint the source of the problem.
According to outage tracker Downdetector, over 1,100 users reported issues with OpenAI's products on Monday afternoon. Shortly thereafter, nearly 4,600 users reported problems related to Microsoft Outlook. Both services appeared to have peaked earlier in the day.
OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Work in July, an enterprise-focused AI agent designed to assist staff with complex tasks like creating presentations and building web applications. This service competes with offerings such as Anthropic's Claude Cowork.
Microsoft and OpenAI have a long-standing partnership, with Microsoft making a substantial investment in OpenAI in 2019. However, the relationship has reportedly become more competitive on several fronts in recent times.
