OpenAI Appoints Two New Members to Board of Directors

Artificial intelligence company OpenAI has expanded its board of directors with the appointment of two new members: David Vélez and Robin Vince.

Vélez, CEO of Nubank, Latin America's largest digital bank, and Vince, CEO of financial services firm BNY, will join the boards of both the OpenAI Foundation and OpenAI Group PBC. The company stated that the new members will bring "complementary perspectives on how technology can reshape industries and drive economic growth."

The appointments coincide with OpenAI's preparations for a potential initial public offering. The artificial intelligence firm, valued at over $850 billion, confidentially filed its IPO prospectus with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission in June, though an official timeline has not been announced.

In October, OpenAI restructured to solidify its framework as a nonprofit foundation with a controlling stake in its for-profit business. The organization has since been described as one of the world's most well-resourced nonprofits.

"David and Robin are exceptional leaders who have used technology to reshape financial services and expand opportunity at global scale," said Bret Taylor, chair of the OpenAI Foundation and OpenAI Group PBC Boards. "Their experience will be invaluable as OpenAI serves more businesses and people around the world, working to ensure AI benefits everyone."
