OpenAI Consolidates Product Leadership Under Co-Founder Greg Brockman

OpenAI President Greg Brockman is now overseeing all of the company's product initiatives, following the official stepping down of Fidji Simo from her role as chief product and business officer. Simo, who had been with the artificial intelligence firm for approximately one year, cited a chronic illness as the reason for her departure, transitioning to a part-time advisor role.

Brockman, a co-founder of OpenAI, had temporarily taken over product responsibilities during Simo's medical leave earlier this year. He will now permanently lead these efforts, reporting directly to CEO Sam Altman. His purview includes the ChatGPT business, go-to-market teams, enterprise sales, and compute infrastructure.

Simo's departure comes as OpenAI navigates a complex period, including preparations for a potential initial public offering (IPO). The company confidentially filed its IPO prospectus in June but is reportedly delaying its Wall Street debut until next year. The valuation of OpenAI had reached $852 billion in a previous funding round.

The company faces increasing competition from rivals such as Anthropic and Google, as well as a growing number of open-weight models emerging globally. Sensor Tower reported that ChatGPT's market share fell below 50% for the first time in March, underscoring the competitive pressures in the AI landscape.
