OpenAI doubles ChatGPT Pro usage limits following user feedback

OpenAI has reversed plans to reduce usage quotas for its premium subscribers, opting instead to double the limits for ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium plans.

30 October 2026

OpenAI announced on October 29 that it is doubling the usage quotas for Work and Codex features across its ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium subscriptions. The move comes as a direct response to widespread user opposition regarding a previously announced plan to cut Pro 200 usage limits by 50 percent.

The initial reduction plan, communicated in September, was justified by the company as a necessary adjustment due to model efficiency changes. However, subscribers argued that the change undermined the terms of their existing contracts. Following the feedback, OpenAI confirmed that it will no longer proceed with the reductions for Pro 100, 200, 500, or Business Premium tiers.

The company noted that while quotas have increased, actual output remains dependent on task complexity and specific model settings. Users are reminded that high-speed modes, such as 'Fast' and 'Ultrafast,' consume quota credits significantly faster than standard operation. These changes are effective immediately for all subscribers.
