A key improvement involves how plugins are organized and recommended. Users can now assign dedicated sidebar entries for plugins, facilitating easier access during conversations. Redesigned recommendation algorithms are intended to help users discover relevant plugins more effectively. OpenAI has also streamlined the plugin creation tools and redesigned the submission process for developers, providing clearer feedback.
The new features also enable deeper integration with external services. Users can now connect supported ChatGPT plugins to their own websites, allowing teams to collaborate and share data according to their permissions. This functionality is available for specific Business, Enterprise, and Education plans.
Automation capabilities for plugins have also been expanded. ChatGPT can now initiate automated workflows based on events occurring in connected applications, adhering to the proposed MCP event specification. For example, the system can monitor a project management board and automatically draft plans when new tasks arise, even without direct user intervention.
