OpenAI Expands Robotics Hiring With Salaries Up to $500,000
Artificial intelligence firm OpenAI is significantly expanding its robotics division, offering base salaries up to $500,000 plus equity for newly listed roles.

Artificial intelligence company OpenAI has substantially increased its hiring in the robotics sector, with salaries reaching up to $500,000 annually, supplemented by equity.
The company currently lists 27 open positions related to robotics, a notable increase from 11 positions in May. These roles span hardware, software, data collection, and prototyping. The publicly advertised base salary range for these positions is between $177,000 and $500,000, before equity and potential bonuses.
The highest-paying role, with a base salary of up to $500,000, is focused on building the infrastructure for processing training data. This highlights the critical need for real-world data for robots, which differs from the vast datasets used to train language models.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has publicly stated the company's intention to move beyond software into physical machines, mentioning plans for humanoid robots and other form factors. These robots could potentially be utilized in managing OpenAI's own data center infrastructure.
This expansion into robotics signals OpenAI's long-term strategy to develop general-purpose robots with human-like intelligence. The company is seeking engineers and technicians to design, build, test, and refine both the physical hardware and the associated software and data systems for these machines.
