OpenAI hires former Anthropic product lead Cat Wu

OpenAI has recruited Cat Wu, previously the product lead for Claude Code at Anthropic, to oversee its core product management. In this role, Wu will focus on the development of AI agents and product strategy, reporting to Tibo Sottiaux. She will coordinate efforts with OpenAI's existing leaders for enterprise and consumer products.

At Anthropic, Wu was credited with driving the commercialization of Claude Code, a tool that saw significant adoption and revenue growth, reaching an annual run rate of $2.5 billion by early 2026. Her departure from Anthropic follows a brief tenure at the coding startup Cursor in 2025, after which she returned to Anthropic to continue development of their coding tools.

Wu, whose career spans software engineering and venture capital at firms like Index Ventures, is expected to play a critical role in OpenAI's strategy to deploy AI agents that can perform tasks for both individual and corporate users. This hire underscores the competitive landscape for talent among top generative AI companies.
