Built on the GPT-6 Astra model, Dots is designed to handle user-defined tasks autonomously in the background, requiring minimal oversight. The company stated that the assistant will be accessible to ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets starting September 29.
Users can initiate Dots through ChatGPT or Codex. The assistant is also accessible via messaging on workplace platforms such as Slack and Teams, with text message support planned for a future release.
OpenAI indicates that users can assign distinct identities, credentials, and tools to Dots for tasks like software maintenance or data analysis. This follows Microsoft's earlier introduction of Agent 365, a control plane for AI agents.
The company has also released a system card for GPT-6 Astra, though it does not detail the specific model capabilities that enable Dots' background operational functions.
