AI company OpenAI announced on Tuesday the launch of Dots, its new agent assistant. The company stated that Dots is powered by GPT-6 Astra and is designed to execute user-defined tasks continuously and autonomously.
Dots differs from previous OpenAI products like Codex and ChatGPT by not being tied to any specific hardware or interface. Instead, it operates in the background, pursuing user-defined goals with minimal oversight.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman introduced Dots at an event in San Francisco on Tuesday. The company indicated that users can name and personalize their primary Dots agent, envisioning future teams of Dots working on behalf of users.
Dots will be available starting Tuesday through ChatGPT for Pro and Business Premium users in eligible markets. OpenAI provided examples of potential uses, such as assisting a software developer in monitoring customer feedback and implementing fixes, or aiding a researcher in running analyses as data becomes available.
