OpenAI Launches New ChatGPT Office Features
OpenAI unveiled new ChatGPT features designed for office productivity, entering direct competition with Microsoft's established software suite.
AI research lab OpenAI has introduced a suite of new features for its ChatGPT platform, aimed at enhancing office productivity and collaboration. Announced at its Dev Day conference in San Francisco on Tuesday, these additions position OpenAI in more direct competition with established workplace software providers, notably Microsoft.
The most significant new feature is "Space," described as a shared workspace within ChatGPT. This environment allows teams to collaborate with the chatbot and OpenAI's newly launched AI agents, known as "Dots," on various work-related tasks. CEO Sam Altman stated that users can assign specific instructions to pages within these spaces, such as monitoring team channels and updating content accordingly.
OpenAI also launched "Pages," a word processing tool that the company characterizes as a new type of document optimized for collaboration between humans and AI agents. This feature aims to assist users with writing, research, chart generation, and data visualization, directly competing with applications like Microsoft Word and Google Docs.
Furthermore, OpenAI introduced "collaborative slides," a feature designed to rival presentation software like PowerPoint. Users can generate slides by describing them to ChatGPT, and multiple users and AI agents can then work together on these presentations, adding comments and making edits.
These developments signal OpenAI's strategic expansion beyond core AI research into practical productivity tools, directly challenging the dominance of traditional software suites in the corporate environment.
