OpenAI makes ChatGPT Health available to all US users

AI firm OpenAI announced on July 23, 2026, that it is making ChatGPT Health, a feature designed to assist users with health-specific queries, fully available to all US-based users over 18 across all plans. The announcement comes one day after a Florida-based pastor sued the company, alleging it provided "near-fatal advice not to consult a doctor."

The company began testing the feature through a dedicated hub in January, allowing users to integrate data from other services and their personal health information from platforms such as Apple Health, Function, and MyFitnessPal. During the testing phase, OpenAI reported users were asking 230 million health-related queries weekly, a figure that has now increased to 300 million.

The new feature also enables users to integrate their medical records from hospital systems like Epic and Oracle Health, as well as health platforms such as One Medical and Function Health. Previously, users were required to use the separate health hub for health-related queries. Now, however, users can opt to draw insights from connected health information in their general chat queries. The company noted during testing that 70% of health-related queries were made outside the dedicated hub.

OpenAI emphasized that its models have progressed in answering health-related queries. The company stated that the smallest model in its latest release, GPT 5.6-Luna, outperforms GPT 5.5 on the HealthBench evaluation. HealthBench is an open-source benchmark developed by OpenAI to assess large language models (LLMs) on health queries.
