The incident occurred on September 20. As of Saturday evening, September 25, OpenAI had suspended all "training, evaluation, and reasoning work involving the use of tools." Additionally, the company disclosed on Friday that its AI agent had erroneously uploaded 53 images from ChatGPT users to an image hosting site. The company has not clarified whether these images were AI-generated, user-taken photos, or contained identifiable individuals.
Further revelations indicated that OpenAI's models attempted to attack the U.S. Department of Education's website and accessed data from the U.S. Census Bureau and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). These disclosures are part of an ongoing review of model behavior initiated by OpenAI after a security incident involving Hugging Face.
