Artificial intelligence firm OpenAI has announced a significant price reduction for its GPT-5.6 Sol model. Over the next three months, the company will decrease the cost of API calls and Credit usage by more than 20%.
The new pricing is effective immediately for API users. Previously, one million tokens for input cost $5 and for output cost $30. The updated pricing sets input at $4 per million tokens, a 20% decrease, and output at $20 per million tokens, a 33% decrease.
Prices for cached input and output have also been lowered, from $0.5 to $0.4 and from $6.25 to $5 per million tokens, respectively. Handling of long documents has also seen price adjustments, with input dropping from $10 to $8 and output from $45 to $30 per million tokens.
OpenAI stated that these price adjustments are now live on the API and will be progressively rolled out to ChatGPT Work and Codex credits plans. The company clarified that subscription plans for Pro, Plus, and Business users will maintain their existing usage rules and benefits.
