OpenAI Releases Astra Model, Claims Proximity to AGI
AI company OpenAI has announced the launch of its new Astra model. Company president Greg Brockman stated the model represents a significant step towards Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
San Francisco – AI firm OpenAI announced the release of its new Astra model, which the company states reaches a key milestone in AI development. At the model's unveiling, OpenAI President Greg Brockman declared, "Welcome to the AGI era."
AGI is defined by OpenAI as an autonomous system that surpasses human performance in most economically valuable tasks. The company views Astra as a significant research breakthrough that broadens the scope of tasks assignable to AI.
Brockman previously believed that achieving AGI would be a gradual process rather than a sudden event. Following the Astra launch, he expressed his personal view that this model might mark the point at which AGI's emergence will be recognized.
The Astra model is released approximately one year after the GPT-5 model series. OpenAI describes Astra as the world's most intelligent and aligned model, representing a leap for professional work. It is said to be capable of tasks such as filling forms, formatting documents, scheduling appointments, and operating software.
Other technology leaders also aim for AGI. Google DeepMind co-founder Demis Hassabis, for example, has predicted AGI could emerge as early as 2030.
