OpenAI Releases GPT-5.6 and ChatGPT Work After Regulatory Approval
OpenAI has received government approval for a broad rollout of its GPT-5.6 model, following a limited preview period. The company also announced a new AI agent, ChatGPT Work.

AI firm OpenAI has secured approval from the U.S. government to widely release its GPT-5.6 model. The model had previously been available only to select, government-approved organizations during a "limited preview" period lasting about two weeks, amidst regulatory scrutiny.
Coinciding with the model's broader release, OpenAI also unveiled a new AI agent named ChatGPT Work. This new tool combines capabilities from ChatGPT and Codex, aiming to allow non-technical users to leverage Codex's features for non-coding tasks. ChatGPT Work is powered by the GPT-5.6 model suite, encompassing Sol, Terra, and Luna versions.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman described GPT-5.6 as "the best model we have ever produced." The expanded availability of this model is expected to influence AI applications across various industries, while continuing the ongoing dialogue on AI regulation and oversight.
ChatGPT Work is anticipated to enhance productivity in areas beyond traditional software development, such as content creation and data analysis, by utilizing the advanced GPT-5.6-powered AI. Businesses now have the opportunity to integrate these new tools into their daily operations.
