OpenAI announced on July 10th the release of its GPT-5.6 series of AI models, making them available in ChatGPT, Codex, and through its API. The new model series includes three tiers: Sol, Terra, and Luna, with Sol positioned as the company's most advanced model.

The Sol model introduces new capabilities, including 'Max inference strength' and an 'Ultra mode' designed to accelerate complex tasks. OpenAI reported that Sol achieved a score of 88.8% on the Terminal-Bench 2.1 benchmark in standard mode, surpassing the Claude Mythos 5 model, and reached 91.9% in Ultra mode for coding tasks.
