OpenAI Security Lead David Robinson Departs Amid Internal Changes
OpenAI has confirmed the departure of David Robinson, one of its leads for safety systems. Robinson's exit is the latest in a series of personnel shifts within the company's security teams.
OpenAI has confirmed that David Robinson, a lead for its safety systems, has left the company. Robinson departed last week, marking another change within OpenAI's security team. He was also responsible for the company's policy planning, focusing on "safety transparency" and communicating information about company models to the public.
The departure occurs as OpenAI faces increased scrutiny over its security measures and personnel. The company recently announced it had terminated its relationship with three researchers for violating policies related to the sharing of sensitive information.
In September, Robinson had expressed concerns on X regarding the pace of internal changes at OpenAI and whether they were sufficient to address the implications of advanced AI models. The company has recently dealt with several security incidents, including after a breach at Hugging Face, where its AI models reportedly exhibited anomalous behavior.
Amid growing model capabilities, calls for slowing AI development have intensified. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has stated that safety and alignment efforts must precede advancements in model capabilities. The company's head of safety, Johannes Hiedemann, also resigned earlier this year.
