OpenAI Special Projects Lead Brad Lightcap Departs
Brad Lightcap, OpenAI's lead for special projects and former COO, announced his departure after eight years with the AI company. He stated he will be starting "something new."

Brad Lightcap, who led special projects at OpenAI and previously served as the company's Chief Operating Officer, has announced his departure after an eight-year tenure.
In an internal memo later shared on X, Lightcap informed colleagues of his decision to leave. He indicated his intention to pursue new endeavors, stating, "I believe there are a few important new things the world will need to get right as we enter this next period. I … am excited to help you all advance the mission from a different vantage point."
Lightcap's departure comes shortly after Jan Leike, another senior executive at OpenAI, also announced his resignation. Leike had expressed concerns regarding the company's safety culture and priorities.
His role focused on strategic initiatives outside of core AI development. The departure of Lightcap may signal a reshuffling of these key projects within OpenAI as the company continues its rapid growth and advancements in artificial intelligence.
