OpenAI to acquire software tool developer Pierre
OpenAI has announced the acquisition of Pierre Computer Company to integrate specialized Git-based coding tools into its Codex AI model.

OpenAI announced on November 5 that it will acquire Pierre Computer Company, a developer specializing in software workflows. The integration aims to incorporate Pierre’s Trees and Diffs libraries—tools currently used for file navigation and code review—into OpenAI’s Codex, enhancing the model’s ability to assist developers with complex Git workflows.
Despite the acquisition, Pierre’s open-source projects will retain their current licensing status. Existing users of Code Storage, a tool that tracks code history via Git, will remain supported as OpenAI works to migrate and embed these capabilities directly into its own AI infrastructure.
The deal remains subject to customary regulatory approvals, and both companies will operate independently until the transaction closes. This move follows a period of heightened scrutiny regarding AI industry partnerships, with regulators in both the UK and the US monitoring the consolidation and strategic alliances of major AI developers.
