OpenAI to release GPT-5.6 AI models widely

AI company OpenAI announced on Thursday that it will release the GPT-5.6 Sol, Terra, and Luna models to the public. This wider release comes two weeks after the technology firm had limited the rollout at the request of the U.S. government.

Initially, OpenAI only allowed a select group or organizations, whose participation was known to the government, access to the ChatGPT-5.6 series models. This broader public release is expected to significantly impact AI accessibility and development.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman is also scheduled to appear on CNBC's "Squawk on the Street" later on Thursday. The interview is anticipated to cover the company's latest releases and the future outlook for artificial intelligence.
