OpenAI Tool Reduces SentinelOne Malware Analysis to Eight Hours

Cybersecurity firm SentinelOne is leveraging OpenAI's Daybreak tool to significantly accelerate malware analysis. OpenAI announced on October 14 that SentinelOne is utilizing Daybreak, a platform that grants cybersecurity professionals access to OpenAI models. This development promises to enhance threat detection and response capabilities.

According to Gregor Stewart, Chief AI Officer at SentinelOne, Daybreak can produce human-level output for malware reverse-engineering in approximately eight hours. In contrast, a top researcher might spend four to six weeks analyzing a sophisticated malware sample. This reduction in analysis time could revolutionize threat identification and mitigation.

Stewart emphasized that while the AI tool enhances efficiency, the team retains accountability for the results. He added that critical decisions, such as architectural changes, should still involve human oversight. OpenAI stated that the faster analysis allows SentinelOne to compare more malware samples and identify shared components and links between threats.

SentinelOne also plans to utilize OpenAI's cybersecurity capabilities in code creation. The objective is for SentinelOne developers to address security issues as they build software, improving overall product security.
