OpenSpeedTest Measures Home Wi-Fi Network Speed
A new tool provides a more accurate assessment of home network Wi-Fi performance by isolating it from the external internet connection.

In the technology sector, OpenSpeedTest offers a new method for evaluating home network performance. Its self-hosted server software measures data transfer speeds between two devices on a local network, excluding the external internet connection entirely.
This approach is valuable for users troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues or verifying that their network supports their subscribed internet speeds. Traditional speed tests, which only measure the internet connection's speed, do not provide a complete picture of internal network capabilities.
Installing and using the OpenSpeedTest server takes approximately five minutes. The server software is available for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS. For optimal results, connecting devices via Ethernet cable to the router is recommended, as wireless connections can limit measured speeds.
The software is open-source, free to use, and requires no registration. It allows users to identify potential bottlenecks within their home network and optimize performance, or consider new hardware if test results are significantly lower than their subscribed internet plan.
