Chinese technology firm OPPO is among seven companies that have received approval from the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) to operate on-device generative artificial intelligence services. Apple and Huawei are also included in this list.

OPPO's AndesGPT large model has completed its registration for these services, and the company has stated that on-device AI is a significant strategic direction. OPPO plans to leverage the AndesGPT model and its accumulated technology to integrate AI capabilities more deeply into its smart devices. The company aims to provide users with more personalized and proactive intelligent experiences.

AndesGPT is described as a generative large language model developed by OPPO's Andes Smart Cloud team. It utilizes a hybrid cloud architecture and incorporates techniques such as continuous learning from Chinese conversational data, instruction fine-tuning, reinforcement learning with human feedback, and knowledge enhancement. Key features include enhanced conversation, personalization, and on-device/cloud collaboration.

The model possesses four core capabilities: knowledge, memory, tools, and creation. This move by OPPO aligns with broader industry trends focusing on integrating advanced AI directly into consumer electronics to offer more sophisticated and tailored user interactions.
