Oracle Increases Restructuring Costs by $700 Million Amid Data Center Investments
Oracle is adding $700 million to its restructuring costs, primarily related to layoffs, due to significant investments in AI data centers. The company's total estimated restructuring charges now reach approximately $2.8 billion.

Oracle has announced an increase in its restructuring charges by an additional $700 million, citing the financial pressure from large-scale investments in artificial intelligence data centers. These expanded costs are part of the company's "2026 fiscal year restructuring plan" and bring the total estimated charges to approximately $2.8 billion, primarily for severance packages.
The tech giant is undertaking these measures as it constructs extensive data center facilities to support cloud computing and AI services for clients like OpenAI. The significant capital expenditure required for these projects has reportedly led to a need to streamline operations and reduce personnel costs.
Previously, Oracle had set aside $2.1 billion for restructuring. The additional $700 million suggests further workforce reductions beyond earlier estimates. The company's CFO recently indicated that "simplification and efficiency initiatives" were helping to manage costs and maintain profit margins.
As of May 31, Oracle employed approximately 49,000 people in the United States and 92,000 internationally. This represents a decrease of 21,000 employees compared to the previous year, reflecting ongoing workforce adjustments.
