Orange County Teamsters Launch Strike, Disrupting Public Services

More than 465 public sector workers in Orange County, represented by Teamsters Local 952, began an unfair labor practice strike on October 13, 2026. The strike affects employees across various county departments, including OC Public Works, OC Waste and Recycling, and OC Community Resources.

The action was taken after the county allegedly failed to offer a fair contract addressing key worker concerns. According to union officials, months of delays and a disregard for workers' needs have led to this action, with the union stating workers are united to secure a fair agreement.

Service disruptions are anticipated in areas such as road and flood channel maintenance, landfill operations, parks and beach upkeep, and repairs for county and first responder vehicles. These services are critical for the more than three million residents of Orange County.

The labor dispute follows months of what Teamsters Local 952 describes as bad-faith bargaining by the county, leading to unfair labor practice charges. The situation is compounded by the Orange County Board of Supervisors' recent vote to increase their own salaries by 25 percent.
