Origin Fresh in Talks to Raise $10 Million for Distribution Expansion

Indian fresh produce startup Origin Fresh is in advanced discussions to raise $10 million in a Series A funding round. The capital injection is intended to bolster the company's supply chain, expand its retail presence, and introduce premium fruits and vegetables to the Indian market, according to founder and CEO Prashanth Vasan.

The company has previously secured $3.5 million across seed and pre-Series A funding rounds. Origin Fresh aims to differentiate itself in India's increasingly crowded fresh produce market by operating a vertically integrated business model, overseeing every stage from farm to consumer.

Funds from the new round will be allocated to opening new stores in metropolitan and tier-II cities, investing in brand building and customer acquisition, and enhancing supply chain capabilities. The startup also plans technological investments, including the expansion of its in-house electric vehicle fleet for logistics.

Origin Fresh sources produce directly from over 10,000 farmers, offering support particularly to smallholders. Approximately 90% of its logistics are managed in-house with a fleet of 120 electric vehicles, and it utilizes salaried employees for last-mile deliveries, avoiding reliance on gig workers.

The company projects operating revenue of ₹100 crore for FY26. Origin Fresh is also expanding its reach through quick commerce grocery platforms and establishing "shop-in-shop" formats within supermarkets. Plans include opening around 10 new stores and at least 10 new hydroponic farms in the coming years, alongside expansion into new geographical markets.
