Ortenau District Uses AI and Social Media to Combat Healthcare Staff Shortage
The Ortenau District is employing artificial intelligence and social media strategies to make healthcare professions more attractive and recruit new specialists.

The Ortenau District is embracing digital transformation to address a critical shortage of healthcare professionals. At a recent meeting of the Communal Health Conference (KGK) in Offenburg, officials discussed leveraging artificial intelligence and social media to boost the appeal of healthcare careers and attract new talent.
Evelyn Bressau, head of the Ortenau District Health Office, emphasized that digitalization extends beyond implementing individual technologies. It fundamentally reshapes workflows and can significantly contribute to making healthcare professions more attractive to younger generations. An event featured practical digital solutions, including AI-powered communication aids and targeted recruitment through social media platforms.
Beyond recruitment efforts, the conference reviewed ongoing projects like the "Die Ortenau bewegt sich" initiative. A structural change was also decided: "Promoting Health Literacy" will no longer be a separate working group but an integrated, cross-functional task across all conference activities.
The initiative aims to tackle the pressing need for nurses, medical staff, and midwives by modernizing recruitment and work practices. The integration of digital tools is intended to improve efficiency and enhance the district's image as an employer in the healthcare sector.
