Orthex tests reusable food containers in Finnish pilot
Orthex Oyj is participating in a new pilot in Finland to test reusable, deposit-based food containers and their return system.

Plastic product manufacturer Orthex Oyj has launched a new pilot in collaboration with several Finnish retailers and other partners, aiming to reduce the use of disposable packaging.
During the pilot, customers in four selected stores have the option to choose a reusable container instead of a disposable one for their take-away meals. Orthex is supplying 10,000 durable, bio-based containers designed for repeated use and microwave heating.
Each container carries a €3 deposit, which is refunded upon return. This incentive is intended to encourage container recycling and minimize waste. The goal is to gather insights into the functionality of reuse for customers, stores, and the environment.
The project is part of the broader Reusify project, funded by Business Finland and led by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and the University of Vaasa. Major players from the retail and food service sectors are involved in the pilot.
