Ostholstein: Waste Association Changes Contractor for Yellow Bins

The Zweckverband Ostholstein, the municipal waste association for the Ostholstein district, will cease emptying the yellow bins from January 1, 2025. The Gollan Group will assume responsibility for collecting and transporting waste from the approximately 72,000 bins.

According to the association, the decision to outsource the service is due to rising operational and personnel costs, which have made the contract economically unviable for the Zweckverband. The association has stated that no compulsory redundancies will occur among its existing staff as a result of this change.

Residents are assured that the transition will not impact the service they receive. The collection of yellow bins will remain free of charge and will continue on the established schedule. The Gollan Group will manage the logistics, ensuring a seamless continuation of waste disposal for households.

This shift reflects a broader trend in municipal waste management, where local authorities are re-evaluating their operational models in response to economic pressures. The outsourcing to Gollan Group signifies the company's capacity to provide services under the new contract terms.
