Ovako Reduces CO2 Emissions in Steel Production
Steel producer Ovako's Imatra mill achieved its lowest CO2 emissions per ton of steel produced in 2025. A new sustainability report shows a 59% reduction in CO2 since 2015.
Ovako's mill in Imatra, Finland, reached its lowest-ever carbon dioxide emissions level in 2025. The mill produced 231 kg of CO2 per ton of steel.
Ovako's 2025 Sustainability Report indicates that its steel products contain 97% recycled content. The report also details a 59% reduction in CO2 emissions since 2015, aligning with the company's goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2045.
The company has also introduced a digital Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) tool designed to automate environmental data collection, reducing the process from months to minutes.
Furthermore, Ovako Imatra has joined the Greenreality Network, an initiative focused on promoting sustainable growth and the energy transition in the South Karelia region.
