Aktion Deutschland Hilft and German broadcaster WDR have successfully raised over 10.6 million euros in a joint fundraising campaign to combat global hunger. The 26-day campaign's proceeds will be allocated to 50 aid projects targeting regions affected by hunger across four continents.
"We are grateful and happy. Together with WDR, we have drawn attention to a major crisis region in the world," said Manuela Roßbach, CEO of Aktion Deutschland Hilft. She emphasized that the campaign demonstrated the strength of solidarity and cohesion within German society.
The campaign, "Der Westen hilft. Gemeinsam gegen den Hunger in der Welt" (The West Helps. Together Against Hunger in the World), concluded with a major live broadcast on WDR. Additionally, WDR 2 radio's "WDR 2 Weihnachtswunder" (WDR 2 Christmas Miracle) event raised over 7 million euros during its five-day duration, where listeners could request songs in exchange for a donation.
The funds raised will support initiatives such as improving food security for farming families in Uganda. In Niger, the funds will strengthen agriculture and support school feeding programs. In Pakistan, aid will focus on cash transfers, food and hygiene kit distributions, and enhancements to healthcare and water supply.
