More than 20 companies are actively researching new treatment modalities for non-muscle invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), a condition affecting the inner lining of the bladder without involving muscle tissue. This surge in development is detailed in a new report from DelveInsight, which maps out the comprehensive NMIBC drug pipeline.

The report identifies over 22 potential drugs in preclinical or clinical development stages, with numerous candidates progressing through Phase 2 and 3 trials. Notable research is underway by major pharmaceutical entities including Merck Sharp & Dohme, ImmunityBio, Verity Pharmaceuticals, Tyra Biosciences, Ferring Pharmaceuticals, and Janssen Research & Development.

One key study, a Phase 2 trial by Merck, is comparing a novel treatment (V940 in combination with BCG) against BCG alone. This research aims to determine if the new therapy can extend patient survival and prevent cancer progression. Additionally, ImmunityBio is evaluating the safety and dose of its investigational drug N-803 when used in conjunction with BCG.

NMIBC ranks as the sixth most common cancer in the United States, with a higher incidence among men. The current standard treatment often involves transurethral resection of the bladder tumor (TURBT) followed by Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) immunotherapy. The ongoing clinical trials represent a critical effort to enhance patient prognoses and reduce the rate of cancer recurrence.
