Over 80 Companies Researching Exosomes for New Treatments
A market research report indicates over 80 companies and 100+ exosome-based drug candidates are in development, including Phase III clinical trials for acute respiratory distress syndrome.

Over 80 companies and more than 100 drug candidates are actively developing new treatments utilizing exosomes, small vesicles involved in intercellular communication. The "Exosomes Pipeline Insight 2026" report, published by research firm DelveInsight in February 2026, details the landscape of this rapidly advancing field.
The research highlights significant progress, including Direct Biologics' initiation of a Phase III clinical trial for its drug ExoFlo to treat moderate to severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). Additionally, Rion Inc. has evaluated the topical treatment PEP-TISSEEL for diabetic foot ulcers in a Phase 2a study.
Key players in the sector include Celularity, EVerZom, Direct Biologics, Cambium Bio, and Capricor Therapeutics. Treatments under development by these firms, such as Olmutinib, Zofin, and AGLE-102, aim to leverage the inherent regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties of exosomes.
Exosomes, initially identified for cellular waste removal, are now recognized as crucial molecular mediators in cell-to-cell signaling. Their ability to transport proteins, metabolites, and nucleic acids positions them as promising therapeutic targets for a range of conditions, including ARDS and autoimmune diseases.
