The Brazilian overclocking team TecLab has presented a radical solution to the problem of melting power connectors on Nvidia RTX 5090 graphics cards. The team bypasses the original 16-pin power connector by soldering power leads directly onto the graphics card's printed circuit board (PCB).

This modification completely removes the 16-pin power connector, which TecLab states fundamentally resolves the issue of the connector melting. The team used a Galax Hall of Fame GeForce RTX 5090 D HOF OC LAB XOC model for this test, a card designed for extreme overclocking, which originally features two 16-pin connectors.

The method is not suitable for regular consumers, as it requires physical modification of an expensive graphics card and voids the warranty. TecLab's likely objective is to provide the additional power required for extreme overclocking. A single 16-pin connector is officially rated for 600W, but this may not be sufficient for extreme overclocking scenarios.

Following the modification, the graphics card powered on and completed tests successfully. However, TecLab emphasizes that information regarding long-term use and potential damage is still pending. The solution is intended solely for extreme overclocking situations where power delivery can reach thousands of watts.
