Overstory launches AI-driven risk management platform for power grids
Overstory has released a new platform that integrates AI-based risk models with utility operational systems to help providers mitigate power outages and wildfire risks.

Boston-based technology firm Overstory has introduced a new grid risk management platform designed to help utility providers identify infrastructure vulnerabilities. The system leverages AI models trained on millions of miles of grid data to predict potential failures and wildfire ignitions caused by power line contact with vegetation.
The platform centralizes data from satellite imagery, LiDAR, and meteorological reports to create a unified view of grid health. By connecting these predictive models to the operational systems used by field crews and planners, the software enables utilities to prioritize maintenance tasks and model the risk-reduction impact of specific capital investments.
Utilities are currently facing increased regulatory pressure to justify spending while navigating the operational challenges posed by severe weather patterns. Overstory’s tool aims to solve the problem of siloed data, where information regarding vegetation management, outage history, and work orders have historically functioned in isolation.
The system is designed to provide a closed-loop workflow that spans physical data collection, predictive modeling, and operational execution, according to the company.
