Ovintiv Renews Annual Share Buy-Back Program
Ovintiv Inc. has received Toronto Stock Exchange approval to renew its annual share buy-back program. The program will allow for the repurchase of up to approximately 27 million shares.
Ovintiv Inc. has received approval from the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) to renew its normal course issuer bid (NCIB). The renewed program permits the company to purchase up to 26,973,037 of its own common shares over a 12-month period, commencing October 5, 2026, and ending October 4, 2027.
The number of shares authorized for purchase represents 10 percent of Ovintiv's public float as of September 21, 2026. Purchases will be made on the open market through facilities of Canadian and U.S. exchanges at the prevailing market price. This action aligns with Ovintiv's capital allocation framework, which commits to returning 50% to 100% of annual Non-GAAP Free Cash Flow to shareholders.
Ovintiv has also renewed its automatic share purchase plan (ASPP), allowing for share purchases under the NCIB during periods when the company would typically be restricted due to insider trading rules. Under the previous NCIB, which began in October 2025, Ovintiv had purchased 13.9 million shares at a weighted average price of $58.49 by the close of trading on September 30, 2026.
The company previously obtained an exemption from Canadian regulators, allowing for repurchases on U.S. markets in excess of the standard 5 percent threshold, provided the aggregate number of shares repurchased does not exceed the NCIB's total allotment.
