OVR Technology Integrates Scent into Gaming Experience with Little Buffalo Studios
OVR Technology is enhancing gaming immersion by integrating scent technology, notably showcased in collaboration with Little Buffalo Studios for their game Akiiwan.

OVR Technology has developed a system designed to incorporate scent into the video gaming experience, aiming to deepen player immersion. The company showcased this technology in partnership with indie developer Little Buffalo Studios at PAX East.
Jeremy Nelson, Founder and CEO of Little Buffalo Studios, discussed his collaboration with OVR, which involved integrating the scent of pine and evergreen into Akiiwan: Relaxing Survival. Nelson explained that the initial contact with OVR occurred at a previous PAX event, where the developers recognized the potential for scent to enhance their game's atmosphere.
Nelson highlighted the positive impact of scent on player experience, noting how it can contribute to relaxation and a stronger connection to the virtual environment. He specifically mentioned the evergreen scent as particularly effective for creating a sense of calm, contrasting it with the urban environment of Toronto.
The interview also touched upon the broader appeal of sensory gaming, with Nelson discussing other games and their potential scent profiles. OVR Technology utilizes specialized scent cartridges that release specific aromas synchronized with in-game events. Akiiwan: Relaxing Survival is available on Steam, with further details on Kickstarter for related hardware.
