Owlet Launched Baby Monitor, Reached $20 Million in First Year

Owlet, co-founded by Kurt Workman, launched its wearable baby monitor in 2015. The company experienced rapid growth, generating $20 million in revenue within its first year of operation. The product is designed to track infant vital signs and enhance baby safety.

The company's initial aim was to provide parents with peace of mind through real-time data. However, Owlet faced regulatory challenges with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regarding product marketing and clearance. The company went public in 2021 but soon received a warning letter from the FDA.

Owlet has since worked closely with the FDA to obtain necessary approvals and has since focused on improving profitability. To date, Owlet's monitors have overseen more than 2.5 million infants, tracking trillions of heartbeats and collecting billions of hours of sleep data. The company has also recently announced the formation of a "Baby Safety Task Force."

This newly formed task force aims to elevate baby safety standards across the industry, collaborating with legislators, clinicians, and other brands. This initiative underscores Owlet's commitment to infant safety beyond just product sales.
