OxGas to build gas terminal for port services in Oxelösund
OxGas is constructing a new gas terminal at the Port of Oxelösund, Sweden, to reduce shipping emissions and expand port services with liquefied gas.

OxGas is building a new gas terminal at the Port of Oxelösund, Sweden, with the aim of reducing emissions from shipping. The initial phase will serve SSAB's local special steels mill by providing an alternative energy source.
The first phase will include a smaller 500 cbm container, with Gasum providing a turnkey package including the gas container and continuous gas deliveries. A second phase plans for a 30,000 cbm energy terminal capable of supplying natural gas and biogas to SSAB's Borlänge mill and other customers.
The Port of Oxelösund is investing in comprehensive cargo handling and transport services, with plans to expand into liquefied gas bunkering. This more environmentally friendly energy alternative is expected to enhance the competitiveness of maritime transport compared to road and rail within continental Europe. Liquefied gas bunkering is scheduled to commence in late 2022 or early 2023.
The project is anticipated to promote liquefied natural gas (LNG) as a future fuel for maritime transport, facilitating a transition to biogas. Gas offers an alternative to heavy fuel oil and marine diesel, potentially reducing particulate matter and nitrogen oxide emissions in the Baltic Sea region.
