Panasonic expands Ni-MH battery range for solar-powered infrastructure
Panasonic Industry Europe has launched its U-series nickel-metal hydride batteries, engineered to maintain performance in extreme temperatures and varied environmental conditions.
Panasonic Industry Europe has introduced the U-series of nickel-metal hydride (Ni-MH) batteries designed specifically for solar-powered applications. These batteries are intended to provide reliable energy storage in environments where temperatures range from -20°C to 85°C, addressing a key challenge for outdoor infrastructure such as street lights, advertising displays, and marine equipment.
According to the company, the design improvements have extended the operational life of the batteries to between 6 and 10 years, roughly double that of standard battery alternatives. Chief engineer Ikuo Katsumata noted that the batteries maintain consistent charge characteristics even at high heat, which is critical for long-term deployments in harsh climates.
The U-series, which includes five models with capacities ranging from 550 to 12,000 mAh, is IEC62133-certified. By eliminating hazardous materials like cadmium and lead, the batteries comply with safety standards and are not subject to IATA transport restrictions, simplifying international shipping for commercial clients.
