Panda Express Founders Aid 55,000 Employees in Homeownership Pursuit
Panda Express founders are providing financial wellness benefits and homebuying seminars to help their 55,000 employees achieve homeownership.

Panda Express, the largest Asian restaurant chain in the U.S. with approximately $7 billion in annual sales, is launching a program to assist its 55,000 employees in purchasing homes. The initiative, driven by founders Andrew and Peggy Cherng, aims to support the financial well-being of their workforce.
The company is offering financial wellness benefits as part of its Total Rewards Package. This includes training on budgeting, saving for down payments, and homebuying seminars conducted by Panda Express's in-house real estate legal team. The program is designed to equip employees with the tools needed to navigate the homebuying process.
The Cherngs, who immigrated to the U.S. from Taiwan and Hong Kong respectively, stated that their own journeys inspired the program. They opened their first Panda Express in 1983, building the company from a single restaurant into a global brand with over 2,500 locations.
This initiative comes at a time when homeownership has become increasingly challenging for many Americans, particularly immigrants, due to rising costs and market trends. Gallup data shows a decline in U.S. homeownership rates, and the National Association of Realtors reports a low share of first-time homebuyers. Panda Express's focus on supporting employee homeownership stands out as a unique benefit.
