Papendal Olympic Centre Adds 315 kW Battery for Energy Management

Papendal Olympic Training Centre has commissioned a new 315 kW battery system as part of its strategic energy management partnership with Eneco. The facility will store locally generated solar power, reduce electricity consumption peaks, and participate in energy and flexibility markets.

Eneco will manage the battery system intelligently, continuously balancing Papendal's electricity production and consumption against energy market conditions. This dynamic management determines whether the battery stores solar energy, discharges power to shave peak demand, or is utilized when market participation offers additional value.

The installation integrates with Papendal's existing energy infrastructure, which includes significant solar generation and 59 new electric vehicle charging stations. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to coordinate energy production, storage, consumption, and EV charging for more efficient grid capacity use and to meet sustainability objectives.

As part of the arrangement, Papendal will make the battery available for energy market participation, avoiding leasing costs for the first three years. This coordinated approach allows for greater optimization of the site's energy system, adapting to changing demand, generation levels, and market conditions.
