Paper Games stated that the decision to introduce Ao Yin was made before the team was adequately prepared, acknowledging that it had hurt players' feelings and damaged their trust. The developer originally envisioned Love and Deepspace as a continuously evolving romance world designed to offer players diverse experiences.
Following the backlash, the Love and Deepspace development team conducted a thorough internal review and decided to halt all plans for Ao Yin. The company confirmed that no additional male protagonists will be introduced in the game's future content plans.
